I wanted to thank you for being here on-line when I need reassurance after the vet has come and gone. (: My yearling filly thought it would be nice to go through an electric fence and found her foot did not come without injury. I have been photographing her recovery for my own sanity. I have been following your debriding process (the wound is on her right hind leg, below her hock, above her fetlock, on the front of the leg. She pulled that wire right down to the tendon, slicing it slightly. I have had her on IM gentomycin and "sulfa pills" per my vet's instructions. I've been using nitrofurizone and, after cleansing with water from the hose (using a hydrotherapy nozzle), rebandage it daily. I thought you might be interested in the digital pictures as she recovers. I have one photo with the injury at 48 hours and at 8 days.

My question is that my vet mentioned some new products that can be used after the granulate tissue contracts to protect the wound. It sounds like some kind of compound that is applied by a vet and dried. Bandages are not necessary afterword.

I will be out of town for a week in early July and do not have anyone to care for her daily. I am wondering if this treatment is a good option, in your opinion?

Sorry I can't be more specific, I was in shock when my vet went through the options. );

Where might I send you the photos? If I can attach them to this message, I will.

Thanks again,

Stacy

I am unsure what the vet might be refering to Stacy, if you find the name right it down and pass it along to us. For how to upload a picture see, Formatting Messages under the Help Section on the navigation frame on the left.
