Our 25-year-old Dutch Warmblood has congestive heart failure. On our Vet's advice, we have been giving him a daily dose of ENALAPRIL/VASOTEC (150mg) and LASIX (600mg). Needless to say, this is terribly expensive. Am looking for a cheaper source of those two medications. Any suggestions?

I don't know if they sell these 2 drugs, but I've been very, very pleased with the generic I buy from Veterinary Pharmacies of America in Houston, TX at 877-838-7979. This was a referral from another HA member, Suzanne. Great price, great packaging too. Maybe they can help you. Good luck!

Hello Stephen,
There are a number of forms of congestive heart failure, do we know the specific lesions or defects in your horse's heart. Also what response did you see to the medication given.

Melissa, THANKS. We just ordered the medications from Veterinary Pharmacies, in a molasses base, in the proper dosages, at a significant savings.

Dr.O - his response to the meds has been nothing short of miraculous (he also has Cushings...). He is eating, attentive, and engaging. We know this big horse is long past his "normal" life expectancy, but for us, every day with him is a blessing (he was my wife's show-jumper for many years). I will find out from our Vet what the specifics are, and get back to you.
