Are the battery operated digital thermometers as accurate as the mercury thermometers? And how far into the horse do I need to put it for the most accurate reading? Thank you! |

No they are not as accurate, though some feel they are good enough. Unfortunately heat apparently destroys them, so they always quit working after being on my truck more than a few days in the summer. DrO |

Dr O, Are mercury thermometers still more accurate considering the improvements of technology. I am about to order a thermometer and would like a recommendation if possible. Thank you. Ilona |

I prefer mercury thermometers Ilona but have not seen a review of the use of digital thermometers in large animals since my last post. DrO |

I've been wondering the same thing, Ilona. When my mom was in the hospital, they were even using a thermometer that they just rubbed across her forehead. How great that would be for a horse! |
