I have a 3 yo Morgan Mare, I just purchased her 2 months ago, seems like she is getting all sorts of wierd skin funks going on. She was loosing hair up under her forelock in circles, no scabs but I think I narrowed it down to Rainrot... Used listerine gold and seemed to dissapear, now she has hair loss under her fetlocks and ergots, no scabs again, just started washing with Betadine and using Thuja today. Does anyone have this sort of funky thing going on?????

Hi Janet, I have an ongoing hair loss situation with my arab mare. Recently did a skin test and it was unspecific allergic reaction. Vet thinks it's bug bites but I'm still not so sure. Interested to know what is Thuja?!

Janet, there is a section in the article Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Overview of Hair Loss & Irritated Skin on hair loss without irritated skin see if anything there fits.

I have 13 yr old gelding. Recently he has started losing his hair. It's like there is a thin top layer and then it's dark skin. He's losing it on his chest, face, side of neck and shoulders. No flakes, no itching, don't know what i should do about it. any suggestions?
