I just had my 11 year old thoroughbred gelding's blood checked - he has a somewhat low WBC (4.7), and low lymphocytes 1269 or 27%. . . . . .had blood checked due to low energy and behavioral problems. (Ear flattening, snapping with mouth, sensitivity to grooming, girthy, etc. . . .) Are these values low enough to be worried? What should I do as far as his nutrition? My vet is hard to get on the phone -- I just received these results with no explanation through the mail. What might these values indicate? Should I have further tests done?? |

Hello Pam, No, these values fall within the lower range of normal limits according to our lab and the texts on the subject. Concerning nutrtion take a look at our article » Care for Horses » Nutrition » Nutrition for the Horse: an Overview of Feeding Horses. Cocnerning poor performance try, » Equine Diseases » Lameness » Exercise Intolerence and Poor Performance. DrO |
