Twice within the last 2 weeks my horse has come in from the pasture with a lump on his muzzle, on the side between nostril and lip. It has been in roughly the same place each time. It is about quarter size, not warm, but appears "greasy" or "wet". I can find no opening in the skin either time. Lump went down within 2-3 days the last time and left the skin "scaly" and peeling. However, there was never any draining from the area.

I've read your articles and can't find anything like this. He does have a pasture mate that he plays kinda rough with, but I don't think this is related. Could it be an allergic reaction to something in the field? Or maybe a bug bite?

Any suggestions would be wonderful. He does not seem bothered by it (unlike me, of course) and I don't want to have the vet out if it is not something to worry about.
