Hi, this is the same foal the MSU diagnosed with a collasped Phylangeal (sp) last month. He was put on Sulpha tablets to prevent a infection. He was doing fine until about three weeks ago, his breathing was better, he only gasped when he was excited. Well last week he had a bout of direaha, slight fever and dumpiness. Vet out and was given Pencillion and baninmen (sp) said it was colic (no dietary changes ever made, has been off mare since March 12th) Vet took a feces sample and called back that she saw no parasite infection (baby up to date on all vac's and worming) But baby looks AWFUL, his back bone is now showing, his coat looks dull and a large worm looking belly, he isnt shedding out all that great either....still dumpy.
Any other suggestions but worms since a exam was done for them? I am having the vet come out once again for this guy first thing this week, but I thought I would get some more opinions..
Thanks
Carrie

I am afraid there is nothing in your post Carrie to explain the generalized poor doing so there are dozens (hundreds?) of possibilities. A good exam, nutritional and management evaluation, and a complete lab work up are in order and the sooner the better.
