Hello Dr. O,
I have a 5yr old mare that has had a runny nose (right nostril only) for about 10 days. No other symptoms, still eating and drinking. Have had her on tucaprim for about the last 7 days and still no change.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Mel

Hello Dr. O,
At first the discharged looked yellow and thick and has now turned what appears to be white. Was informed by vet to put her back on tucaprim for another week, still eating great with no other symptoms.
Thanks,
Mel

In addition, the discharge isn't "running" just this white ??thick?? stuff in her nostril.

I think the fact it has quit actively running is encouraging and agree that perhaps another week or three of antibiotics might help if this exudate is purulent (puss).

If it persists a thorough exam designed to discover the source of this exudate (nostrils, sinuses including tooth roots, pharynx, guttural pouches) would be in order. This might include radiographs and endoscopy.
