I am wondering if I hit a nerve or something.
Several days (could of been right after, as I didn't associate this with the shot till a few days ago) after giving an EWT vaccine to my 2 yr old filly she started walking with a left and right sway in her neck and head.
I give my shots in the triangle area of the neck. If I am remembering correctly when I gave this horse the shot it went in a little funny, (hard to describe), but when I put the needle in it seemed to stop at one point then continued on- it seemed weird at the time.
I have had my local vet look at the filly, he doesn't have a large x-ray machine, when I made the appt. he commented he may not be able to diagnois. After examination (she did not do what she does at home- but showed a little of what she is doing- kinda like a car that doesn't act up when the mechanics around-lol) Vet had me give her 2 grams of bute twice a day for 6 days.
She did improve with bute but still sways a little when at a walk, is fine at trot and canter. She had never gone off feed or looked like she was feeling bad, and other than the swaying seems fine.
Could I have hit a nerve that caused this? I know nerves are slow to repair, will it heal and how long will it take? DrO should I keep giving her bute until she quits the left to right swaying?

Without actually seeing it Chris it is hard for us to make a diagnosis. But if you think this is a local reaction to the injection I would continue the bute until it is back or almost back to normal. Long term problems can result from excessive inflammation (death and scarring of the tissues) so this helps prevent this.
