Dr. O,
We had our mare injected last year in the coffin joint on two separate occasions. One of those times it did not work and we were told it was most likely a soft tissue issue/bruise. She did not have a diagnostic block. The second time she had the diagnostic block and the coffin joint injected and it worked beautifully. She is now looking like she needs it again. Do I need another diagnostic block or can I go ahead and get just the coffin joint injected? More info: The first time she was very lame and the second time she had been shod and was off only a little bit.
Thanks,
Carol

Arguments can be made both ways carol e and it depends on your goals. Consider whether you want to know for sure is this the problem prior to treatment, in which case a complete exam should be done, or whether you just want the problem addressed and willing to take a chance this is not the problem and/or solution.
