Hey all,

Does anyone have a COPD horse and have it in some kind of air conditioned barn? and did it help? I don't mean total air-conditioning, but using those big fans with a water coolant system that helps reduce the humidity?

And if so what is the setup? Or for that matter anyone out there who uses these systems in general? I need some research leads or names of manufacturers that sell them. But just don't know where to start.

thanks,
joj

To the degree that the conditioned air lowered the offending allergin over what could be achieved out of doors it would be helpful. But I do not know of any systems designed for horse barns. A commercial system should work but if hay molds are the cause, hay should not be stored or fed to the horses.

Thanks Dr. O...
I can't rule out hay/mold yet, but the episodes happen mostly when the neighbors cut the grass. And the vet mentioned buying a unit to help ease the time in the barn. I just thought to buy a de-humidifier or an air purifier :-) but they just don't seem to make them big enough :-) or if they do its in the thousands... At first those fans with water hoses attached sounded good to cool the area, but then these episodes only happen in the higher humidity and wouldn't those water-cooled fans just add to the humidity problem?
When the horse was in Tennessee the COPD signs totally disappeared.

I agree that a swamp fan is not likely to help and the history is suggestive of the Summer=Pasture-Associated-COPD form.
