I have a foal that is 4mo. old and we have just weanted her. She is very thick in the throatlatch and we were told that sometimes this is caused by a mare that milks really well and that it should go away after the foal is weaned. They called it milk neck. Have you heard of anything like this. |

I have not heard of a milk neck. A picture or two would be great but might not answer: what structure specifically is enlarged. This is a complicated area internally with lymph nodes, thyroid glands, a bunch of large vasculature. I assume the foal is healthy in all other ways? DrO |

I have heard of milk neck, it was the term used by the breeding manager at the farm when the to- be weaned babies get a little thick. Its usually the the whole neck , no lumps etc |
