i've got 2 horses being treated for erlichiosis at my barn. they each have a different vet.. one vet is doing a 10 day course of doxycyline, the other is doing a 5 day course... i remember when we did a 14 day course a few years ago...
any news on what the best course of treatment really is?
any known effects from a too short treatment? (like with lyme)

Hello Melissa,
We have an article on treating Ehrlichiosis with our treatment suggestions at » Equine Diseases » Cardiovascular, Blood, and Immune System » Equine Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis. Though there is a variation in recommended treatment times, none are as long as 10 days.

Concernng Lyme disease in horses all research seems to show that horses do become infected but are asymptomatic (do not become ill). They clear it from their system shortly therafter. For more on this run a search on "Lyme" as we have discussed this often.
