DrO,
Years ago, I was told by a very reputable race trainer that race horses and cows don't belong close together, the reason being that leptospirosis causes permanent minor lung damage, insignificant for any other sport but quite critical for the race track.
Unfortunately, by the time I was able to interpret race track vet records I had no more access to them. I haven't found such information in any book or article. What is your opinion?

Hello Christos,
I have not seen or heard of this and from what we know of the infection in foals and adults this does not seem likely. However there is some support for the idea in foals aborted by lepto as they frequently have lung lesions.

Thank you, Doctor.
Let me just note that the man who said this is a multiple triple crown winner, and not a man of rumours and superstition.
