I just bought a 7 year old Shetland pony mare, blue roan pinto. Her head is mainly black, with a blaze. She doesn't have any white skin or hair around her eyes. I just noticed that her sclera on the left is very visible, while on the right it is not. Other than that, it seems the eyes are identical, seem equal in size, etc. Is this just an oddity, or a sign that something may be wrong? I've searched the Horseman's veterinary guide, and this site, but can find nothing on this condition, if it is one.
Thanks for the help,
Sharlene

I can't help...but I noticed that my gelding's left eye has MUCH more brown (less sclera) than his right...I could have SWORN they were the same. I'll be very interested to hear what Dr. O says about this.

You see uneven pigmentation in horses without problems. However chronic inflamation of the outer layers of the eyes can introduce more pigmentation. If the eye does not look painful I would not worry.
