We have a two year old colt who was hauled out from MN. to Id. and only unloaded one time, as they couldn't get him loaded again they were afraid they couldn't reload him. He had a pretty poor appreance upon arrival, just not real healthly looking. He has begun training and not coughing when worked. But has a persistant cough after drinking? Any ideas?
Has been wormed, on vitamins, probios, immune system boost and excellent feed, is doing much better other than the cough? Weight and condition looks much improved.
I have read about horses being hauled long distance getting problems could this be something from that?

Coughing while drinking suggests that water is getting into the respiratory system. This may be a swallowing disorder or perhaps a birth defect. On the other hand this may be a transient clumsiness on his part: he attempts to take in too much at a time. If if persists a thorough exam including scoping is in order.
