My 13 yr old warmblood mare was diagnosed 4 years ago with OCD in both hocks. She doesn't pass a flex test but is sound. I ride her 5-6 times each week (low-level dressage) and she is on 5cc Chondroprotec once a month. Her last x-rays did show changes and the condition is worse than is was 4 years ago, but she is still sound. My question is this; is there a joint supplement you would recommend I should add to her daily feed?

Sheila,

I've had excellent results using Joint Discovery by U.S. Animal Nutritionals in combination with Adequan (chondroprotec) shots once a month.

Joint Discovery is a pellet that you add to your horses regular diet. You can read about it at the following web site:

www.usanimalnutritionals.com

My experience with joint supplements (and in comparing notes with friends) is that some supplements work better with certain horses than others. As such, I'd suggest purchasing a supplement in the smallest available quantity and evaluate the results. If you're extremely pleased, then buy it efficiently as possible.

My horse is 18 years old and since finding this combination he's got lots of spring in his movement and seems quite happy. I know I am.

Hi Sheila,

Rick is right about some supplements working better for some horses...Experimentation will be key.

I use Cosequin on my guy...You might also ask Dr. O about the amount you should give. I've heard that 10,000 is the best amount...so I'd have to give 6 scoops of Cosequin to my guy...He's doing well with 4 scoops however.

Good luck!!
