Quick history - Sept. 24th my 10 yo mare substained a deep cut to rear anterior cannon. The wound extended through tendon and to bone (x-ray confirmed no fx). The wound was stiched on one side to cover the deepest part and protect the bone, while the other half of the wound is open. The open area is aprox. 10 x 15 cm. She was on oral antibiotics and bute x 1 week and has remained infection free. I removed the stiches @ 2 weeks and have basically done hydro therapy, cleanings with chlorhexidine, bandaging, and stall rest. I was using a petroleum based antibiotic, but have stopped. Until I get my Nolvasan based ointment, I'm just spraying the pads with chlorhexidine and applying to wound.
My question is - if I trim the wound bed will this delay the contraction phase, and is that a good thing? I've included pictures (hopefully) of her wound at one week and three weeks(taken today). Will the current amount of proud flesh hinder the amount the wound will close during contraction? I do realize you may not be able to recommend much going just on pictures, but any advice would be appreciated! (Sorry if my images take forever to load!)

No trimming does not delay contraction and it definately is time to remove the exuberant granulation tissue that lies above the plane of the margins of the skin. The wound looks very good but I wonder if well applied pressure wraps might reduce some of the swelling in the lower leg?
