My mare has had pigeon fever for over a year. It is manifest as a swelling approaching her teat and it about eight inches long. She has been bred, had a foal and the foal weaned and the swelling has never burst. It disappeared once for a week and came back. Is there any nutritional/herbal supplementation that would effectively boost her immune system to help her fight off this infection. The vet has recommended against antibiotics.

Hello Suzanne,
Though I am unaware of case reports of using the nonspecific immune system boosters, there use for nonresolving PF seems logical. However, how sure are you this is PF? What have you done diagnostically to check on this? Swellings in this area from many causes are common.
