Dr. O,

My yearling filly after eating her grain, two pounds of strategy twice a day, stretchs like a cat or dog. He butt up in the air and feet out in front of her. She always does this only after eating her grain. She is in a large pasture with grass and alfalfa hay 24/7, and she acts normal in every other way. Is this something to be concerned about.

If this is the only symptom, it is hard to suggest expensive endoscopy to look at the stomach or pylorus. If tis worsens at all however you migh consider ulcers or abnomalities of the pylorus, where food leaves the stomach and enters the small intestine.

There's a morgan at my barn that does this quite a bit, and I've actually seen my big guy do it a couple of times. I think what I've witnessed is just a really good stretch.

That said, I've been wondering if my horse has ulcers, he doesn't do this stretch often, just sometimes after getting up from his nap. Something else to think about. Thanks for the posts!
