Dr O...If a horse has been treated for EPM, will running a new blood test then show up negative for the anit-bodies? Sorry for the mis-spelling. Thank you so much for your response!

It is a great question Nancy and I can find no published reports where the question has been investigated. I would not expect a rapid return to a negative titer and you have to always remember that positive titers are found in horses with no signs of disease.

Nancy,
I don't know if I can help you or not but will share my recent experience with you. My horse was on Marquis for 2 straight months and we saw a marked improvement. Last week, months after treatment, my vet retested for EPM with the Western Blot and his titers were just as high as they were before we used the Marquis. He is showing all the signs of a relapse and I have decided to start him on Navigator. I contacted many EPM specialists and one of them suggested that for a relapse, Navigator would be a good choice for chronic EPM. My horse was also given two vaccines for EPM, without boosters, unbeknownst to me, and I asked about the titers being related to these shots. B/c they were given two and three years ago I was told that the titers would not be a reflection of the vaccines. Contact some of the EPM experts at Ohio State University. They are extremely helpful.
