Hi, I've asked so many questions in the short time I've been a member of this forum, and just thought that it would be good to share some good news for a change: my paint, Buck, doesn't have diarrhea anymore!

It's been two years of washing a poopy tail, and watching him look more and more wretched. Three vets, every remedy that was suggested, I tried. Nothing.

The current vet looked at him hard and said "I want to fix him." And she has. It was relatively simple, compared to all the things I've tried. She changed his feed to an extruded senior feed by Blue Seal. She took him totally off hay, and out of the pasture. He has been only in the barnyard, which is pretty much a paddock, I guess, with short grass. He's in his stall with twice a day feedings for about four hours in the middle of the day. And he's been getting half a tube of paste ProBios a day. She's going to wean him off that soon, he's doing so well.

And he's better, almost completely normal. His tail is gorgeous again, and he runs with it held high, like he's really, really happy.

I have learned from reading this forum that diarrhea is not such an uncommon thing with horses, and wanted to share a success (touch wood!) story, and hope that it might help someone else.

The thing that strikes me about it is that it seems so simple: just taking him away from whatever was ripping him up inside, which apparently was HAY. Who would have thought? He must have known, though, because he didn't want to eat it.

Thanks again for all your help in the past year or so, on so many different topics. I think you're all terrific.

I'm so glad Buck is himself again. Cudos to you for your diligence and caring enough to persue a remedy for him, and to your vet.

Wonderful news. And now you don't have to second guess yourself on riding him either. Happy spring to you and Mr. Happy Apples.

Excellent news Winifred, except to your pocketbook. And kudos to your veterinarian. Backing up your vets recommendation, this is our first recommendation (Blue Seal is largely a fortified beet pulp feed) in "Diarrhea Overview" for undiagnosed chronic diarrhea?.

So glad for you and Buck, Winifred. One of my favorite expressions is "Persistence pays off." Certainly applies here. Good for you for continuing to seek solutions for your boy. I'm sure Buck feels better without the rumbly tummy.
