I have been struggling to keep my navicular mare as comfortable as possible for over a year now. I have DrOpped her weight to on the moderately thin side, been shoeing and trimming her properly for months, and tried bute as well as cortisone injections. None of this has completely rid her of her occasional limp.

Since there are no vets in my area who are extremely experienced in performing neurectomies, this isn't the best option for my horse. Bringing her to the nearest veterinary college is an expense that would cripple my student budget. However, my vet has suggested trying injections of a drug called Sarapin into the same nerves that would be cut in a PD neurectomy.

Does anyone have any experience with this drug for this use or any other? Dr. O, any thoughts?

Erin I have heard of using reserpine (Sarapin) for such treatment also you hear about alcohol blocks done this way. I have not done either procedure nor have I ever seen any published information on it. I think this is one of those things handed done vet to vet from the distant past. I would be interested if you do it the procedure used and the results you achieve.
