Dr.O, My horse was kicked in chest. There is swelling about the size of a golf ball. There is no heat, no cuts or marks...just a lump that is firm (not hard) At first I thought it was DryLand Dist. but having watched it for a few days, the swelling is lessening. Tried to ride (trot) her in our arena and noticed she was limping so stopped. Do you have lameness with a hematoma? Is hand walking ok/will it help to decrease the swelling? Thank you, Sharon

Hello Sharon,
The hematoma is not painful but the injury causing the hematoma might be or the lameness may be some other problem.

Since we do not know the extent of the injury or cause of the lameness it is difficult to make accurate recommendations. Check out Diseases of Horses » Lameness » First Aid for the Lame Horse it makes recommendations for dealing and treating lameness of unknown cause.
