A non-horsey friend sent this story from SKY NEWS, about a horse in England that appears to be allergic to GRASS. Don't know if anyone else heard about it, yesterday, but here is the link with a photo. The owner is obviously very dedicated to this horse's well-being.

Isn't that wild? They showed that story on the local news, in Denver, the other night. So other non-horsey people find it interesting, too!

What the heck! Allergic to all types of grass?? My first thought was that it must be a particular strain, that I could understand. But everything?! I wonder if that includes plants like oats etc, and legumes like alfalfa? I'm guessing it must due to her special diet.

Is it me, or are serious allergies becoming more prevalent lately? I don't ever remember having to take such special cautions around people who have nut allergies for example, and now schools will not allow students who sit near a student with an allergy to bring PB&J for lunch.

Also wheat allergies .. it has been a staple crop for thousands of years. Have the allergies always been there and we just didn't know it, or what?

getting a tad off topic here, but, Personally? i think we bring it on ourselves. We've become a country of paranoid :-) AND/Plus the more we put our hands into something the more problems we have. i wouldn't know for sure but wheat? is it modified in some way? or the fertilizers they use? etc. Its probably not the wheat per se. its what we in our technology to make things better, make things worse in other ways. I've gotten rid of all eczema related problems, by making my own soap. Back to basics.

I have allergies. bad as a child. not so bad now...allergic to odd things like coconut. olives. Oranges. grass. hay. all animals. all molds. its never stopped me. Or on the other hand i won't let it. Refused the meds. and made sure it didn't stop me.

Sadly, that is not the case with many. They take the meds which i believe lower your resistance and keeps the cycle going. They eat poorly and a downed immune makes it worse. Then comes asthma, then those meds. and the cycle just worsens.

I guess its just a matter of time for a horse to be allergic to grass.
