If I wanted to use psyllium not as a way to clear sand, but as a way to manage chronic diarrhea (in addition to diet), what dose would I use? Would I use it for awhile like Sand Clear or would it be a daily thing?

Hello Ann,
There is no known dosage that might be more effective at controlling diarrhea than another. In fact I do not know any control studies that suggest it is more helpful than doing nothing. However some have reported improvement with it's use. You might try the labeled dose for sand and if after 4 weeks you see no improvement try doubling it. For more on this and other treatments see, Diseases of Horses » Colic, Diarrhea, GI Tract » Diarrhea in Horses » Diarrhea an Overview.
