Is there a regulatory body that keeps track of equine deaths? I was wondering how many horses die of Potomac Fever each year. Diva mare's former stable mate (at former owner's barn) died of Potomac Fever in August. She was 7 and had been vaccinated for PHF; however, I don't know how many she had for 2009. The article recommends 4x a year. I only did 2x for Diva Mare. There is no standing water on this farm. Automatic waterers are used.

Hello Vicki,
Some diseases are reportable to the state or federal authorities (rabies and EIA come to mind) but I don't think anyone requires PHF numbers. However such information has been put together from prior outbreaks and presented in the prognosis section of the article on PHF.
