I am curious and I hope someone has some input for me.
I have a very healthy and fit 9 y.o. Westfalen/tb cross.
I have had him almost 3 years now, and aside from a fever from a vaccine reaction he's never been sick.
However, occasionally (about once or twice a week), after I work him, he will be in the crossties for his untacking and grooming, and when I unhook him from the ties and lead him to his stall, he will drop his head and a slightly opaque whitish liquid, (snot?) will literally pour out his nostrils, sometimes one nostril only, sometimes both nostrils.
It's very runny, kind of slimy, and has no odor, bad or otherwise. He does not seem at all distressed when this happens, and he does not have an unusually crusty nose before I groom him.
My vet was present one day when this happened and he dismissed it, and said it may be some kind of allergy, but not to worry about it, as he shows no other symptoms.
He's done this since I"ve had him, and when it happened today, I thought I'm gonna ask Dr. O. :-)
He's in (and has been since I got him), steady work (4-6 times a week),we're now schooling 3rd level and showing 2nd, and we also go on trail rides, and he has plenty of energy.
He's an "easy keeper", turned out 24/7, on grass hay, alfalfa, (once a day), and beet pulp for his vitamins and msm.
Any guesses?
Thanks!

It all depends on the nature of the exudate Angela. Since the vet dismissed it I suspect you are seeing a bit of frothy serous discharge worked up during the workout.

Thanks, DrO. I've got the crossties set pretty loose, so he can keep his head at or below his shoulder, and by the time I ice his legs, groom him, and futz around with him, it's about a 1/2 hour or so.
I undo the crossties, and it's like a little spigot goes off in his nose. Someday, when I have money buring a hole in my pocket I may get his nasal passages endoscoped, just for my peace of mind.
As it's not impeding him in any way, I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing.
The exudate is not "frothy" per se, but a clear to opaque white liquid, very runny, and when I swipe his nose out (with my fingers, don't get too oooged out about it, lol), it's very slimy.
I'll just keep an eye on it!
Thanks!
