Discussion on Question about article on Navicular Bone Fracture
Author Message

I just read the article posted on navicular bone fracture. There is a horse at my barn that has been diagnosed with a navicular fracture (he was an ex-Amish cart horse). The vet is getting to do "shoot" him and this article caught my eye. He has had some corrective shoeing but it is not very effective. I would be interested to offer this article to them but do not not what AAEP Proceedings 1997 pg. 370 is found. Could you please let me know what this stands for and where I might obtain a copy! Thanks for your help!

Joyce,
American Association of Equine Practitioneers
Proceedings from the 1997 meeting. If their veterinarian is a member he probably has a copy.

If neccasary we do have a reprint service and the charge is 25 dollars, just have them fill out the consult form with their request.

I have just been told that my 5-Gaited horse has a medial edge fracture with separation of the right navicular bone. The farrier has put him on a egg-bar shoe with packing--2 quarter clips on each side and a toe clip. He is set at 53 degrees. Does this seem to be adequate and what is the outlook for recovery.
