More Info
A genetic problem in the "Impressive" line of Quarter Horses has surfaced in the past few years. The disease is characterized by recurring episodes of trembling and weakness. The problem can get bad enough to cause collapse and death. The problems usually start in young, well-muscled horses beginning training, but this is quite variable. It has been estimated that approximately 30% of Impressive'sdescendents have the gene. The HYPP gene is the result of a mutation and has not been identified in other lines of horses (Jan 95).
