I have been told my horse has a fungus in his ears.
How should I treat this problem? Esther

Welcome Esther,
There is a often misdiagnosed condition of the ears, can you describe the appearance of the ear lesions?

Thank you Dr. for responding.
He has like white polkas dots inside his ears.

When I was a kid we bought a horse that had some kind of fungus in his ear. It was a rather big spot. I remember it being kind of a creamy yellow color, and it would flake off if you picked at it. It seemed to cause him pain when you picked at it or bridled him. We tried to treat it once, and treating it caused him quite a bit of pain and we saw very little positive results with the method that our vet (not sure what that was now, but we picked the stuff off and applied some kind of cream to it). It never seemed to bother him unless we actually handled the ear, so we gave up and just took more care with putting the bridle on. We owned him until he died, and it never got worse and never seemed to bother him beyond putting the bridle on.

This is not a fungus or an infection of any kind see, Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Bumps / Nodules / Warts / Tumors » Overview of Bumps, Nodules, Warts & Tumors. Check out the heading Aural Plaques.
