The placenta is the temporary organ that forms during pregnancy to support the foal while it is in the mare. Placentitis means inflammation of the placenta. Placentitis is an increasingly common cause of late term abortion. Most often the cause of the inflammation is infection. Recently methods for early diagnosis and treatment have been explored. This report talks about recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of placentitis.
