My friends wormed their mare with Ivermectin 12 hours after foaling. Now the mare is in foal heat, and the foal has no diarrhea. They attribute it to the worming. Is this likely? (p.s. sorry if I posted this twice - thought I had posted it before, but couldn't find my post!)

Umm from memory they discovered foal heat has no real impact on the foal, it is a conincidence that the mare comes into foal heat at about the same time the foal starts eating manure to get its digestive system ready for eating grass.

We had the same thing foal heat in the mare and no diarrhea in the foal until 5 days latter when he started on mums manure, as he needed to micro organisms to be able to digest grass.

So unless they are imediately cleaning up mums manure the foal will still go through some intestinal changes, it varies with each foal.
