My neighbor just told me that one of their carriage team horses ran a fever and died the next day. She said the mare became disoriented and intially was laying down but not rolling. Colic seems to be ruled out. The mare was 18. The owner had a pregnant mare next to the team and when she fed the pregnant mare she decided to give the team some of the alfalfa mollases grain to the team. Could the grain become toxic? They are still waiting on test results. We live in the Mojave desert in Calif. and there is a virus going around that I am trying to get more info. on.

Hello Colleen,
There are so many possibilities that even conjecture at this point is counterproductive. What you need is a good postmortem, let us know the results.
