dear dr. o,
my 21 year old horse was just diagnosed by a new farrier with contracted heels in three feet.she suggested using "dry cow" every day. should i have the vet out? does he need soaking or betadine?he is barefoot. he had been too long between trims, as i was having difficulty getting a farrier.he is NOT lame.
thanks,
ellen

What is "dry cow?" I've never heard of it.

Sara, she is referring to OTC mastitis medicine, these are usually cephalosporin antibiotics in a applicator tube. ellen, not necessarily as there seems to be no clear illness, but what is going on is not clear to me. I presume the treatment means he also has thrush?

Ellen, you need to start using correct capitalization in your posts. This helps those who read them and you will get more responses. Thanks.
