Dear Members ,

My horse was treated by a vet for surface wound on his front left leg b'cos the wound do not seem to dry up and close . I was told extra fresh is growing around the wound and he have to scrap the extra fresh off .
After the extra fresh was scrap with a blade and bandage , I rest my horse for three days but still walk him everyday .
Upon removing the bandage after 3 days I notice the tendon appear but there was no heat and the horse still walking very fine . But 2 days later my horse is lame . What can I do ? Can my horse be safe ?

Thank you ,
Don

Don,
Why do you believe the lameness is assocaiated with the wound? If it is, infection is the likely reason. So good wound care and possibly systemic antibiotics will be needed. See, Equine Diseases: Skin Diseases: Wounds: First Aid, Care, and Proud Flesh for suggestions.

Hi DrO,
Thank you for responding , the surface wound is about 1" in diameter for the pass 3 weeks and before the treatment the tendon did not appear .

The wound is cured after the scraping but the tendon didnot subside . I suspect the tendon is cause by strong bandaging . Is there a way to treat this problem?

Don

If you think the tendon has been hurt by overly forceful bandaging, you need to treat with cold hosing and antiinflammatories like bute, but infection following removal of proud flesh strikes me as a possibility and there are certainly others.
