DrO,

Sometime Sunday afternoon our mare hit her eye on some object or was kicked. The upper lid is pretty swollen and the eye very cloudy. She does open the eye when we aren't messing with it, but I she isn't seeing very well as I've seen her bump into other horses on that side.

Monday afternoon our vet prescribed two ointments, Ophthalmic triple antibacterial and 1% Atropine Sulfate Ophthalmic twice daily. He is pretty confident that she suffered a blunt trauma to that eye, he also said the prognosis for full sight recover is only fair.

Of course my wife has questions I didn't think to ask our vet. I read your article on cloudy eyes and the related posts.

Is there any indication a warm or hot compress might benefit in clearing the eye, or maybe a hot/cold therapy. Thanks.

Good day,
Alden

With remarkable swelling cold compresses (ice rapped in a wet rag) if applied for 20 or 30 minutes. Oral bute will go along way to resolving the swelling.
