Hi
I am trying to find information on Equine Encephalosis Virus.I have a six year old warmblood who was extremely sick. At first the vets suspected African Horse sickness. We nursed him and the vets saw him twice a day for 8 days and we utilised homeopathic veterinary medicines and to the vets surprise, he recovered. His blood results came back from Onderstepoort indicating a result of 1:128 for EEV. Apparently this shows he actually had Equine Encephalosis Virus. I have searched the internet but haven't managed to find much on this virus. I would like to know which organs it affects and the course of the virus ie what impact it has on the horse internally. regards

Penny

Hello Penny,
There are quite a few viruses that cause encephalitis and they have different clinical courses, can you better tell us which type you had? We discuss EEE, WEE, VEE, and West Nile at, Equine Diseases » Nervous System » Dementia: Depression, Excitement, Coma. West Nile may be the only one common to Africa but there may be others there I am unaware of.
