Hi! We have a 4 year old AQHA gelding that has been diagnosed with moon blindness and cataracts. Do Cataracts commonly accompany moon blindness? We've had 3 different vets look at our gelding, all with the same diagnosis. None of the three offered a treatment plan. What is the prognosis this gelding will have a performance career? It's my understanding California doesn't have a clinic offering agressive treatment for this type of problem. Are there new laser treatments available? If so, what is the success rate? If we treat the cataract, will the moon blindness still affect our geldings performance? Thanks

Hello Linda,
Cataracts can occur as a terminal event in moonblindness but are not common early on in my experience. Without seeing the cataracts I cannot comment on the need for laser and what the prognosis might be though many of the factors are discussed in the article on cataracts.
