Hi Dr O:
My mare had her foal 3 l/2 weeks ago. He was over at the knees and practically standing on his fetlocks in the back when born. Within a couple of days, he had straightened right up in the back, but he is still a bit over at the knees. At times, the front legs will be quite straight, but it seems as the day goes by, he gradually starts to go over. He also gets a slight wobble, rarely. I figured it is probably fatigue.
Am I correct is assuming that there is little to worry about as long as he is sometimes coming straight in the front?
The mare is on timothy, pasture and l/2 lb. of grain (twice/day). I thought I might take her off grain. The foal gets no grain, but nibbles at the hay and grass.
Thanks, Lucy
