One horse at my stables has diarrhea and suspected salomnella. My horse is not kept with the sick animal but was in contact with him yesterday when he first became ill. How worried should I be and is there anything I should be doing to protect my horse?

Hello Elizabeth,
Yes it is important that you provide your horse with as stress free environment as possible for the next month: essentially this means do not change a thing. Actually, salmonella is probably everywhere, possibly in your horses bowel. Horses tend to succumb to it when stress, exposure to a particularly pathogenic strain, exposure to a large dose, or their is a disturbance of the normal bacterial flora occurs.
