Hi Dr. O., OK-nobobody panic, (that means you Fran), my horse is doing great. However, I do have a question. Can a horse develop arthritis later in life secondary to OCD even if they had surgery many years before to correct the OCD? Thanks, Mary |

Absolutely Mary, a horse with a history of an OCD operation should be looked upon as having an increased chance of developing arthritis. The natural repair of the surgery is not as strong as normal cartilage and since any joint on any horse can develop arthritis, obviously one with a history of weakness has increased chances. Uh Oh Mary...now you have me worried, despite the fact that you said Caymann is doing great. Please tell me this was a question out of curiosity and not out of neccesity.... |

Hi Fran, The Master is just fine. It is a question I have often wondered about since he did have OCD surgery when he was five. However, I am doing everything one can for joint health, so I'm not worried about it, but it's something I keep in the back of my mind. Thanks for the info Dr. O. Mary |
