Hi DrO,
For the first time, my vet sent a card suggesting my horse needs to be updated on her PHF vaccination. Unfortunately, when I got the card, it was too late to call to ask about it - I'll have to wait until Monday. In the meantime, I came here to check up on this (of course). After reading through everything, it sounds like there's no need to vaccinate against this unless its endemic in the area - which at this point and time I don't know, although I haven't heard anything through the horse grapevine.

Is this still your recommendation? And, for the vaccine to be effective, the article stated it should be given 4x/year...is this still true? Is the vaccination still of uncertain efficacy?

In the past, I never thought twice about shots, but after spring shots, my mare experienced a stiff neck and from other members posts, some times these reactions get worse year after year. So, while I'm a complete believer of vaccinations, I don't believe in giving my horse a shot just to make ME feel better.

Thank you, as always.

Fran
