I have a young horse that has developed heaves after a bad respiratory virus. My
vet has suggested she stay outside 24 hours a day and to use bronchodilators and
an antihistamine - which I have done with some success. Another vet suggested I
put the horse on Azium long term. I have heard bad things about putting horses on
steriods long term - can you please comment on this? The horse's symptoms are
typical for heaves - coughing, some nasal discharge, weight loss etc
