I sususpect my new horse as of Aug may have tape worms-may not so i want to double doze both of my horses with strongid. They are are on daily stongid 2C and when I got him in Aug I gave him Quest before starting him on the daily wormer. I used quest as that is what I'm using this year with the pony for my biannual de-botting deworming.

OK for the question-if he had tapes when he arrived and I have been using daily wormer and now want to double dose with strongid will it be affective or are the tapes becoming resistive to it as he has had several months of daily wormer.

Thanks for your input!
Kim

Recent research continues to come in to support the idea that the daily use of pyrantel tartrate (Strongid) pellets is very effective at controlling egg production of tapeworm infections. We still are not sure however that it kills the adult tapes though we suspect it. Right now resistance to pyrantel is uncommon if it happens at all and if you wanted to be sure a double dose would be fine.

An alternative dewormer for tapes is Niclosamide and I have included information about this in the article on dewormers.
