My horse is a suspect diagnosis for Anterior Uveitis - the vet was out the day before yesterday. I read the article on Recurrent Uveitis, Moon Blindness, and Periodic Opthalmia. Is Anterior Uveitis any different? Does Uveitis mean an eye inflammation and Anterior refer to the front part of the eye - as opposed to Posterior Uveitis - the back of the eye? Do all the Uveitis-es carry with them the worst case scenario of blindness? Is it possible that he won't go blind? Reno is only 4 years old.

We're treating with ophthalmic and systemic antibiotics. Any thoughts there?

Thanks,
Joni

Though any inflammation of the anterior chambers of the eye might be called anterior uveitis, usually it is used as a synonymous term for recurrent uveitis. I am unsure what your vet means and this would be best clarified asking him/her. No, blindness is not always the end result. Treatment and prognosis are covered in detail in the article.
