Just had a pre purchase Vet check on a 6 year old quarter horse and the Vet said that there were symptoms of Uveitis. There is no current outbreak and the owner says that the horse has had no problems in the last year. The horse seems to have my name on him. Would you recommend not purchasing such an animal? Caring for the problem financially would not be a burden. Is the outcome the same in all cases or do some horses only have a mild case?

Thanks in advance for your advice

Hello Mary Lou,
I guess it depends on how sure of the diagnosis your vet is. I have seen this happen to horses in my practice on a prepurchase: a past traumatic episode left a scar or some other vague change that may indicate RU but the horse had never had symptoms and did not develop them any time following.

On the other hand your vet may have a good handle on this, I can't tell. Perhaps contacting the sellers veterinarian could clear up this issue. I am interested, exactly what findings the vet found that make him/her suspicious.
