Hi All :)

I am wondering what precautions are taken with Alfalfa hay used to make pellets.

I purchase Purina brand Alfalfa pellets and I would think/hope this large company does take steps to see that all of the hay used is safe.

I really don't know. Considering the toxicty of even very small amounts of blister beetles and the focal nature of the way they congregate in the fields, I doubt survellience is done or if it is that it would be 100% effective.

On the other hand I have not heard of this particular problem from alfalfa pellets. They have had problems with toxic corn myeloencephalopathy in other products and there was another company that has had problems with botulism from alfalfa cubes. They get a lot of grief because they are big but I find overall they do a very good job.
