Dr. O

My filly was diagnosed with epiphysitis when she was 4 motnhs old. had her on strict diet and a whole regimen of products to help her through it. She has been (in my opinion completely cured) for months now. She is now 1 year old. So I decided to start giving her equine jr again which is what I was giving her before she got sick. Now out of the blue the bone (very top and inside of left knee) has swollen to twice its normal size, but no evidence of lameness, only some tenderness and slightly warm if I touch it. Could it actually be the equine jr. causing a recurrance of her epiphysitis? I also starting adding alfalfa to her diet too, but for some time now, only the equine jr has been added recently. It is driving my nuts. She was looking and feeling great.

Thanks as always for your time.

Karen

hello Karen,
No if feeding was a problem I believe the problem would be generalized to the other legs. What does your vet say?

Karen,
you need to find out why the swelling has happened, there are a number of possible causes. A diagnosis is going to require a thorough exam and possibly radiographs. The article associated with this forum is on epiphysitis that may help you learn more if yu have not read it yet.
