What are the most common problems that I can encounter down the road with a mare that is currently recovering from 'blister beetle ingestion'. I know that chronic laminitis is one but can there be reproductive problems also?

Hi Henry - Although items on blister beetle poisoning are a topic that often appears in equine publications, you are the first person I have come across that has actually had to deal with it. Out of curiousity, would you mind giving me an idea as to your geographic location? And/or the geographic location of your hay source?

I regularly purchase high-quality alfalfa - both locally here in Virginia & from Montana - & although I inspect every time I feed, I understand that alfalfa is a main "blister beetle" food source.

Thanks for any info!

Bonnie
